Do you have heard of the saying is,

I think, therefore I am.

learn to think for yourself

Think harder

develop your mind

Think positively.

In society we are taught that thinking is an ultimate human ability. Lateral thinking, rational thinking, logical thinking, positive thinking, optimistic thinking: these are all widely encouraged. Of course thinking skills are very important in life. But there is more to you than your thoughts.

No matter what you’re thinking remembering or imagining there’s a part of you that separate from your thoughts, apart that is able to observe your mind in action, to notice what it is doing. This is called observing self, and you’ve already been using this as you work through the various exercises of our happiness blogs.

We talk about “self “ in so many different ways, but often we refer to only two aspects, the physical self and the thinking self.
The observing self Israeli talked about and we don’t have any words for this. It is an important part of ourselves because without it we have no capacity of self awareness.

I want you to start noticing yourself noticing, this is a little exercise for you. For 10 seconds close your eyes and just notice all the sounds that you can hear. Next do that again, as you know it is what you can hear, be aware that you are not a thing.

next, for 10 seconds, look around and noticed what you can see. Do that again but this time as you noticed what you can see be aware of what you’re noticing.

For the next 10 sessions, notice a position of your body, noticed where your feet up, what is supporting you, how could your spine is. Don’t do that again but this time as you know it is your body, be aware of what your noticing.

for the next 10 sessions, noticed the position of your body, noticed where your feet are, what is supporting you, how curved your spine is. Don’t do that again but this time as you notice your body, be aware of what you’re noticing.

You can do this about anything for example what you can taste in your mouth. You can have 10 seconds wiggle your fingers or another quick exercise is take three slow deep breaths and really notice your breathing, do that again but be aware that your noticing.

in this exercise hopefully you found that a part of you is aware of everything that you see here touch taste smell et cetera this is called observing self.

whatever you are thinking, feeling, whatever you’re sensing or doing this part of you is always there aware of it. Now that you have read this article I just want you to be aware of yourself more than you ever have been.
